What we do
The information below explains a bit about what we do in the RAF section. The files below each section contain the syllabus (known as Air Cadet Publications or ACPs) that the Senior NCOs in the RAF section at King's use to form the content of their interactive lessons. These lessons are taught to cadets in years 9 and 10 during the winter months when day length and weather is less suited to outdoor activities. In year 11, usually the third year as a cadet (year 8 is spent as a recruit), the cadets have the option of taking a supported self study
Part I - Basic Training
Cadets usually spend year 9 working through the Part One syllabus. Completion of the Part One training syllabus gains the cadet the "First Class" badge shown to the left and allows the cadet to participate in Air Experience Flights.
Examination is internal and the topics taught are:
1. Airmanship
2. Map Reading
3. History of Flight
The ACPs for these topics can be found below.
Weapons handling training on either the .22 rifle or the L98 cadet GP rifle also forms part of the Part 1 training. Drill and turnout is taught throughout the year but not examined.
